Mesothelioma Awareness Day – Comments from the Team

September 26th is Mesothelioma Awareness Day. Here at the Halpern Law Firm, our staff works hard to fight for the victims of mesothelioma and to help get victims the compensation they deserve. It is important that mesothelioma is recognized as a serious disease, and we are hopeful about the new advances in treatments that are happening.

I asked members of the team a question: Why do you like helping victims of mesothelioma? I got responses back that really touched my heart, showing how much the Halpern Law Firm really cares about the people we represent. Everyone replied to me with thoughtful responses and insights about what makes their job important to them. From attorneys, to paralegals, to law clerks, to those working behind the scenes, we have a common goal in mind- to help the people who have been diagnosed with mesothelioma and their families.

Comments from the Team

When I asked our senior paralegal, Bob Webb, why he likes helping mesothelioma victims he highlighted the importance of compassion. Bob said “Compassion means coming alongside someone in their suffering – and compassion demands that we be defenders of the weak, and that we comfort those in need.  Having been on the receiving end of compassion myself, I love working with mesothelioma victims for the opportunities this affords for me to be compassionate.” Bob has been working with mesothelioma victims for many years and really cares about this work.

I asked our attorney Andrew Balcer the same question. He stated “I thoroughly enjoy working with our clients because they mostly remind me of my family and friends while growing up in a small steel town, in that they are everyday people who worked their tails off providing for their families, while all the while being victimized by corporate greed and recklessness from some of the largest and most profitable companies on the planet who knew asbestos would kill people, but did nothing to prevent it—my clients never asked to be exposed to asbestos, they weren’t warned about asbestos, they didn’t breath it in on purpose, and they certainly never thought they’d end up with mesothelioma–so I take great pride in using my experience, knowledge and work ethic to fight those careless companies and insurance companies to get compensation for people who, at the end of the day, could very easily have been my own mom, dad, uncles or family friends.”

Jordan Metzger, our firm administrator, said “I enjoy helping the victims of mesothelioma because these people are innocent people who were taken advantage of only trying to go to work and unfortunately were exposed to asbestos, leading them to their cancer diagnosis.”

Another one of our attorneys, Patrick Donovan, said “I like to help Mesothelioma victims because they are deserving clients. Through no fault of their own, they were exposed to asbestos, which caused their disease. The corporations who exposed them knew that asbestos was toxic but did not stop using it. Our clients are innocent victims of corporate greed.”

Another one of our paralegals, Mark Watkins, stated “I go to work each day knowing I am fighting on the right side of justice for tradesman, servicemen, and family members that have been wronged by careless companies that were knowingly putting these people in harm’s way, and the desire to work for our clients to receive a fraction of the compensation they deserve.”
