Thaddeus Kotarski

Thad Kotarski earned his J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law (2023) and his B.A. (History) from the University of Pittsburgh (summa cum laude, 2018). While in law school, Thad focused on environmental law as part of the Energy & Environmental Law Certificate program. In recognition of his academic success and commitment to public service, Thad was awarded the CALI Excellence for the Future Award (given to the highest-scoring student in a given course) for Energy Law & Regulation and two commendations for his pro bono and volunteer work.

Thad’s work experience reflects his commitment to approaching legal problems from a variety of angles and draws on his experience in the environmental, personal injury, and administrative law spheres. Within the University of Pittsburgh, he worked as a certified legal intern with the Environmental Law Clinic, a research assistant (Prof. Jessie Allen), teaching assistant (Prof. Jon Pushinsky), and research fellow (Prof. Linda Tashbook). During the summer breaks, he worked at the firms of Friday & Cox, LLC, and Fair Shake Environmental Legal Services. Prior to attending law school, Thad worked for the immigration firm Hudson Legal Group, P.C., and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine’s Osteoporosis Prevention & Treatment Center. Thad is currently preparing for sitting for the Pennsylvania Bar Examination and will be joining us full-time upon finishing as an Associate Attorney.

A Pittsburgh native, Thad enjoys exploring the area’s museums and parks in his free time, painting, and listening to jazz. As a committed history and philosophy buff, Thad continues to read widely in the philosophy of law and environmental justice, areas that he continues to publish in.
